The Value of Dream Workshops

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Recently I had the pleasure of participating in two dream workshops: "Lucid Dreaming" with Christine Boyer and "Dream Yourself Awake" with Jeremy Taylor. As always after attending an event ofthis type, I left feeling creatively inspired, spiritually nurtured, zinging with energy and excitement, and reconnected with a community of fellow dreamers. The effects infused both my waking life and dream life for weeks! Aside from the chance to get away, I feel there are many benefits in immersing oneself in a workshop or conference specifically devoted to dreams and dreamwork:

  • It reinforces the value of dreamwork, and gives one an opportunity to meet and work with other dreamers; to share experiences and support.
  • It often brings immediate results, or intense breakthroughs, which can be slower in coming when one works alone on their own material.
  • Personal contact with the instructor (often an author and always a highly experienced dreamworker) allows room for asking questions, clarifying concepts, and generally tapping into the knowledge that person has to offer.
  • Working in large (or small) groups reinforces dream community and affords practice or experiments in new techniques.

If you have yet to give yourself a chance to try this kind of process, plan on doing so in the future you’ll be glad you did! For a great opportunity to work with many people in a variety of workshops, consider attending the International Association of Dreams annual conference coming up in June 2010.

IASD Returns to Asheville for the 2010 Dream Conference

Friday, November 6th, 2009

New Venue. New Dates.

IASD’s 27th Annual Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville, North Carolina. The conference will open on Sunday evening, July 27, and conclude with the Dream Ball on Thursday night, July 1, 2010.

The conference planning committee had to work quickly to establish the new venue following unforeseen circumstances requiring cancellation of the original plans to meet at Western Carolina University.

The Crowne Plaza Resort is a serene retreat located on 125 rolling acres overlooking downtown Asheville. It is a full-service resort with an 18-hole par 70 regulation golf course, four outdoor clay tennis courts, a heated outdoor swimming pool, an on-site fitness room, spacious guest rooms, 30 deluxe vacation villas, and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access.

The Crowne Plaza is just 12 miles from the Asheville Regional Airport, with direct flights to and from Atlanta, Charlotte, and Chicago International airports. Shuttle service is available between the resort and the airport.

Plan to extend your stay in North Carolina through the 4th and beyond so you can enjoy all the state has to offer: hiking, biking, rafting, and kayaking. View the artwork of potters, weavers and artists and visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or the famous Biltmore Chateau.

Make 2010 the year you decided to visit North Carolina – the state that produced Andrew Jackson, James Polk, Charles Karault, Hiram Rhoades Revels (first African-American member of the US Congress), Thomas Wolfe, award-winning movies, and the not to be forgotten Pepsi and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

More information on the conference, including the registration form and procedures for submitting presentation proposals, can be found on the conference website: www.asdreams.org/2010

Hawaii Retreat: Dreaming And Awakening, Hawaii, March 10-19, 2010

A Vacation? A Dream? A Quest?

A Nine-day Residential Training Program
in Lucid Dreaming with Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D and Friends
Special Guest: Fariba Bogzaran, Ph.D, the Art of Lucid Dreaming
Kalani Oceanside Retreat Village, Puna Coast, Big Island

Becoming adept at lucid dreaming requires practice and a degree of concentration difficult to maintain during our busy lives. This program provides an ideal opportunity to focus on cultivating lucid dreaming ability and enhancing mindfulness in daily life. Wehave been hosting our Hawaii Retreats for over 10 years, and have found that most participants, regardless of whether or not they have had a lucid dream in the past, will succeed in having at least one during the program.

The retreat features group and individual exercises based on years of research into the most effective techniques for developing the skill of lucid dreaming. These include: memory training exercises, methods of "reality testing" for recognizing the dream state, a sleep schedule that greatly enhances the frequency of lucidity, and lucid dream induction devices (NovaDreamer). Plenty of time is also devoted to discussion of the science, applications and implications of lucidity in dreaming andin waking. Attendees may also participate in ongoing research on the lucidity-promoting effects of a natural (herbal) substance.

People of all levels of experience are welcome. Everyone contributes to making each group special; the small group size allows personal attention and guidance.

You will find a more detailed description of the program on our website:<http://www.lucidity.com/DAA/program.html>.
