Pregnant Women's Dreams We would like to invite you to participate in an international research project on pregnant women's dreams. By examining your dreams and feelings and those of other pregnant women, we hope to discover something new about the meaning and significance of dreams and feelings during this particular life change; and strive toward a better understanding of how to help with possible difficulties and stresses that this experience might entail. Participation in this research project involves writing down your dreams (one week/month during the pregnancy) and filling out questionnaires concerning your pregnancy and how you feel, as well as some background biographical information. Requirements for participation are: 1) You have completed high school. 2) You are fluent in written English. 3) You are pregnant (first trimester, second trimester, or early in the third trimester). 4) You would be able to come to New York City for one initial meeting. You do not need to recall your dreams every night to participate. Variation in dream recall is common and different levels of recall are welcome. If you decide you might be interested in participating in this research, please send your name and telephone number to the e-mail address below, and indicate good times to reach you. We will then call you and further explain the study procedures and would also be pleased to answer any questions you might have about the investigation and your participation. If you agree to participate in the research, one of us would meet with you and explain the process of your participation in our project in detail and answer any questions. You would receive the research materials and fill out the first form asking you how you feel. After the investigation is completed one of us would be glad to share with you in a more complete fashion both the objectives and the results of the research. Your contribution will expand the information available to pregnant women everywhere, and help them to understand and prepare themselves better for the experience of pregnancy. We personally believe that your participation in this project could enrich an already unique experience in your life, and leave you with a collection of dreams as a special memory. For more information, contact Pia Wigren E-mail: DreamResearch@aol.com Phone: (212) 627 5112

Call for Precognitive Dreams. To be used in an upcoming book by Alan Vaughan, Dreams and Destiny which will test four hypotheses: 1. That dream precognition operates like memory of the past and that peak emotional events can be dreamed of many years in the future, akin to long-term memory, 2. That individual dreamers have distinctive "mindprints" in relation to time, 3. That days on which the earth's magnetic field is of lower strength than usual will correlate significantly with the times of precognitive dreaming, and 4. That "intuition-favorable" days indicated by astrology will correlate significantly with the times of precognitive dreams. Send your precognitive dream data to: Alan Vaughan, Ph.D., 1567 Silverwood Drive #B, Los Angeles, CA 90041. Fax: 213-257-4242. Email AlanPsy@aol.com.

Looking for Material on Prophetic Dreams I'm doing a research paper on Prophetic dreams and am having some trouble finding material. I already have the primary sources of the Bible and the Koran, but I am limited on secondary sources and that is what I need. So far I found a man name Josephus who has much to say on prophetic dreams, but I need other people's opinions. So if you know any books or websites that you can recommend I would greatly appreciate it Thanks - Sobia asm212@is8.nyu.edu

Dream Puns and Plays on Words Wanted If you have had one or more dreams which were very meaningful to you and which related directly to an issue then under consideration (where the recognition of the pun/play was a key to your understanding), then I hope you will consider sharing the report, in your own words, of that dream with me. Email John Herbert at jherbert@alum.mit.edu

Dreams Related to Retirement We have commenced a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation in which we wish to explore the effects retirement might have on dream life. We are also seeing if a weekly opportunity to tell a dream has beneficial effects on those going through this life transition. If anyone has had a dream in which the theme of retirement and leaving the work place has paid a role, we would be very interested in learning of them. The person communcating such a dream should include his or her age at the time of retirement and the proximity of the dream to the retirement date (i.e., how long before or afterwards). Thank you. Dr. A. ("Art") Funkhouser, Bern, Switzerland. Email: atf@alum.mit.edu

Songs & Dream Music Project I am currently collecting all the songs that I can find which are about Dreams. Please send your suggestions to: dreaming@changingworld.com Each person who sends in at least one suggestion, will get back my list of over 60 such songs. I would like to know: song name, artist, name of recording it's on, date if know. Warning: there are many songs with "Dream" in the title or lyrics which are not REALLY about dreams, and many that are about dreams that do not say so explicitly. So the challenge is to locate the best ones that ARE about dreams. This is part of a larger Dream Music Project. For that I am also looking for "Dream-like" music. This can include instrumental music that evokes the feeling of dreaming, or music that is dream-inspired. Or music on topics that are only related to dreams tangentially, or only for you. The broader question here might be something like: "If you were dreaming of a long street lined with theaters, bars, pet & pawn shops; different music in each one, which kinds of music would you hear coming out of the nearest three or four places? Which would you go into? What would the music turn into after you got inside?" As you can tell, you can really let you mind wander with this. Any thoughts you have are appreciated. I hope for diverse perspectives. This project will lead to written articles & perhaps compilation recordings. Send to Dick McLeester at: VisionWorks, PO. Box 92, Greenfield, MA. 01302, email: dreaming@changingworld.com

Staying Awake While Asleep What I am trying to locate is a group (if it exists) that is interested in exploring staying awake while asleep. That is to say the whole ball of wax---going to sleep, taking it on down, watching the various stages, having some control, exploring the deeper areas, etc. It appears that I have been able to do this from time to time, depending on circustances in my life. The first few minutes are not so difficult. Also, going to sleep while standing up and walking around seems to be possible. If anyone out there has similar experiences or interests, let me know: "Bruce F. Wayland" bwayland@sccoast.net

Dream Symbols and Popular Culture We are a general trade publisher with a focus in the area of symbolism and popular culture. Currently, we are working on a major series of books which focus on the synchronicity between the top products of popular culture (films, TV series, songs, books, songs, etc.) and collective unconsciousness. We feel products are the key modern symbols and are asking if there is a connection between them and collective unconsciousness. We are looking at the products which occur at the same time and seeing if there are patterns between the products and other cycles in culture. This goes against traditional methods of investigation which focus on causal connections. We are looking at simultaneous (synchronistic) events. We would be very interested to know if anyone tracking dreams has found correlations between the most popular symbols of dreams and events in popular culture. We would really appreciate your comments on the above idea. Is the above type of research being done by anyone today? Do you feel it is a worthwhile area of reasearch? Is it feasible to do this? Please send your thoughts to: John Fraim, President , The GreatHouse Company, 167 Oak Drive, West Liberty, Ohio 43357, 937-465-5400, email jfraim@bright.net

Tibetan Dream Yoga Meets Western Power Napping: Sleep Posture, the Nasal Cycle, and Naps For over 1,000 years, the Tibetan Buddhists have been practicing lucid dreaming as a means of approaching enlightenment. In this pursuit, they have developed elaborate techniques for inducing lucidity. Some of these are esoteric beyond the capacity of the uninitiated Western mind to conceive, let alone practice. However, others bear a striking resemblance to the techniques now employed by Western oneironauts, for example, frequent reflection throughout the day on the dreamlike nature of reality. The Lucidity Institute is grateful to the Fetzer Institute, which has provided them with funding to investigate the value of ancient Tibetan lucid dreaming induction techniques in the West. One such avenue which has been little explored to date is that of posture during sleep. They have conducted a few NightLight experiments over the years in this area. However, the number of articipants has been too small to allow reliable conclusions. Thus, they are once more offering an experiment investigating sleep posture and nasal laterality (an ancient Yogic technique for influencing states of mind), combined this time with the extraordinarily powerful napping technique of inducing lucid dreams. Thus, this experiment has two goals. One is to further refine the nap technique, which we have found to be the most effective of all for inducing lucid dreams. This study will help establish whether 30 or 60 minutes of wakefulness inserted in the latter part of a night's sleep is more likely to lead to lucidity. Second, they wish to clarify the results of a previous night Light experiment on nasal laterality, gender and lucid dreaming. Some Tibetan lore suggests that men and women should sleep on opposite sides, because their energy channels are reversed. They would like to find out if this is fact or superstition. They have made this experiment as simple as possible so that more of you will participate. By using naps, they expect to collect a lot more lucid dreams than in previous attempts, and that's good news for participants as well! Please join in this endeavor and help bring Tibetan Dream Yoga to life in the West. If you are interested in participating, please email The Lucidity Institute with your postal address and we will send you a copy of the NightLight experiment. We will also make the experiment available online at our website in Adobe pdf format. Email to: research@lucidity.com
