Black Moon is a unique film, constructed entirely out of archetypes that connect as dream images connect (not in a linear, causal fashion, but through their interior meanings). Louis Malle enjoyed breaking the rules of filmmaking (in My Dinner with Andre he created a film almost without physical movement, only dialogue; in Black Moon there is no dialogue whatsoever--only music, sounds, and a feast of images). It flopped in the box office because people couldn't figure it out. However, anyone who loves dreams and archetypes should love this film. It is a great delight discovering the ideas so wordlessly embedded in the interplay of images
